The Garden in Your Hands
Everyone of us has been given a garden to tend. To care for. To Steward.
Oftentimes it looks more like weeds, rocky soil, or barren earth than paradise.
But it’s still yours.
And the question is not whether the garden has the ability to bear fruit—it’s whether you are tending it.
Too many of us resent the ground we’ve been given. We compare it to the lush orchards of others. We complain about all of our weeds, the dry patches, the lack of tools.
We tell ourselves, “I’ll work the soil once conditions are better, once I have more time, more help, more certainty.” Or, “I’ll put in just a little bit of effort and see if it’s successful before working on it more.”
But waiting doesn’t make the land bloom. Neglect doesn’t bring fruit.
The garden responds to the hands that tend it.
From Waiting to Working
The temptation is always to wait:
To wait for better conditions.
To wait for a clearer sign.
To wait until we feel ready.
To wait until it shows us that it might work.
But waiting is just another form of resistance.
The garden doesn’t care if you feel ready. The ground doesn’t care if you’re scared. The seeds will only grow if you plant them.
What would happen if instead of resenting what hasn’t yet bloomed, you honored the soil you’ve already been entrusted with?
What if you saw your life not as punishment for what you lack, but as blessing for what could still be cultivated?
The Garden Is the Test
This is The Stewardship Test in disguise.
You aren’t being asked to prove you can create orchards overnight.
You’re being asked to show that you will honor what you’ve been given—today’s garden—before you’re blessed with tomorrow’s harvest.
The fruit is not the proof. Your care is.
Neglect is a choice. And every day you wait, every day you compare, every day you bargain with the soil, the weeds grow stronger. Until eventually they’ve overtaken all of the fertile soil and all that remains is overgrowth and the daily visual reminder that you refused to care for what was placed in your Stewardship.
The truth is simple: If you can’t care for what’s already been entrusted to you, you don’t deserve to be blessed with more.
Becoming the Gardener
So look at your life. The garden you’ve been given.
What’s in your care right now that you’ve been ignoring? What weeds need pulling? What seeds need planting? What ground needs watering?
Are you waiting—or are you tending?
Because tending transforms even the roughest soil into fertile ground. Tending turns the ache of barrenness into the joy of harvest. Tending is how you become the gardener you were always meant to be.
The blessing isn’t just in the fruit. It’s in being entrusted with the soil at all.
Honor it. Tend it. And watch what grows.
